Hi

I'm getting ^&*()^ off with my mum keep wanting me to solve stupid, simple problems over the phone and trying to explain simple concepts like copy & paste over and over again.

Is it possible to remote desktop into her PC if we aren't on the same network?

If so what software is best?

Thanks

that's the best option here :)

easy for your mum to install (you create a website login, then get her to login, and 'add this pc to my logmein' or something like that)

then for you to take control of the machine, login to the website, enter your username & pass, then the pc's password after you've clicked on it

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

You have no idea how much hassle you've saved me. As an indication, she once said the mouse wasn't working correctly, I finally managed to find out that she had it upside down with the buttons buried in her palm ... I mean come on mum ffs!! :D

What's wrong with Remote Desktop + DynDNS (or similar)?

By default Remote desktop locks out the remote screen, so it's not idea for demonstrating stuff.

I use VNC a lot at work this sort of stuff. It work quite well, but you have to remind people that you can't see what they're pointing at with their finger.

Log me in free is just so easy to use. I don't bother getting my friends or family to do the install I just install it if they call me to look at something and whilst there tell them I will do it for them, That way they don't have access to the log in details to start messing with other peoples systems I've set up.

We also use logmein rescue at work which is really simple to set up and you can within about 40 seconds be logged into anyones computer anywhere in the world and sorting out whats wrong. I think ISP's should invest in this technology it would make their support work much easier to do, I know it makes my life easier and saves me having to drive hundreds of miles to sort out a little issue because the numpty on the other end of the phone doesn't understand copy and paste or even worse the person on the other end of the line is an instant clicker who without telling you clicks ok or close on every box that pops up without reading what it says to you.
