hi there,
I have recently installed ubuntu and are just trying out a couple of ways to try and access it remotely on my local network.
My first thought when using ubuntu was maybe vnc support which gratefully it has but do you guys know if ubuntu can be RDPed into or have any programs that can be installed that support the RDP format.
my second wonder is if multiple remote sessions like vnc can be run on an ubuntu computer from windows, i have had a google around and as yet i cannot find anything, and can only remote in if there is a session active.

thanks

thanks sirius,
i have already enabled vnc and set it to the settings described in the link, but when i vnc i can only access the session that has already been logged in from the computer itself.
do you know if there is a way to remote into the computer and bring up a login box to start a session? and if so can this be done with multiple users at the same time?

As the link says VNC only shows you what is on the host machine, so going by that I would assume only one person at a time can log in. VNC is more of a remote administration tool, ie only one person need be connected at anyone time to any one account.

Try this:

Further down I think there are instructions on accessing Ubuntu from Windows.

Hope this helps :)

Seconded - I set this up (a long time ago now) on a Solaris network at work to PC clients running eXceed.

If you want to connect to your Ubuntu install from Windows then I believe Cygwin contains a XDM client; even better, Cygwin's free!

Err...

May I suggest ssh? Or if you are desperate for your desktop maybe running an XServer/Client.

Hey guys, yeah i found freenx before i made the post but i didn't install it properley, have now and it works perfect.
i am also still getting a popup saying that the computer i'm connecting to is not secure or something and would you like to continue, no idea how to turn this off.
i'm gonna spend some time on it tonight hopefully find the answers but if you guys have any ideas would be cool.
