removing a heatsink

i will be getting a new heatsink sooner or later ...

the problem is the last time i took it of the cpu come with it bending most the pins

i dont want a repeat of this on my nice new cpu so was wundering is there a right way of doing it ? or maby a trick lol ?

Warm the heatsink/CPU with a hairdrier if you think it will stick.

Run the machine awhile, turn off, then remove it should soften the paste.

I find its mostly suction that keeps it stuck, also go with making sure its warm too so the paste softens.

BTW what CPU have you got, I take it its not an intel because they have a locking holder that keeps the CPU in place

its the amd fx 8120 thanks for the tips run the pc hot for a bit then remove just hope it works

what sort of past do i want to use ? or are thay all the same ?

and is there ane thing els i need to fink about in this prosess of applying a new cooler ?

mx-4 is considerd the best atm

Don't Run it to long tho can get very very hot 15mins is enough.

also agree on MX-4, but IC Diamond 24 is slightly better, but is much more expensive.
And most proper coolers will come with its own supplied paste, which is usually good enough.
Also when applying the paste can be important. there are loads of guides on net/youtube.
Personally i use a grain of rice size amount, with a little dot each side so it looks like a +.
Push down the new cooler. give it a little twist and back again, then tighten screws.
Once pushed down, never relift the cooler before thightening the screws, as this will introduce air bubbles.
