Removing a phone extension

Just got BE internet in our new place. We have one phone line coming into the house which goes into the bedroom as the master socket and one extension running off it which goes into the kitchen.

Now, as neither of us bother using the landline ever (we both have work mobiles) I was thinking of disconnecting the extension that runs to the kitchen. Logic being that when I connect my BE box to the test socket on the master socket, I connect at 9 meg. If I go through the regular socket I connect at 6,5 meg.

Will removing the extension provide a speed increase? Bearing in mind, it has no phone connected to it.

And if it does, how do I do it?!!!?! :)

Thanks for any advice

possibly.

depending how its connected up, more than likely just take off the faceplate off the master socket. if any wires are connected to the faceplate, undo them (DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING BEHIND THE TEST SOCKET) :D

I am connected via the test socket at the moment and getting 9.9 Meg, whereas when I go in via the front I get 6.5 so quite a worthwhile jump.

just had a look at the master connection and when I take the faceplate off, there are wires connected to points 1-6. These wires are connected directly to the extension that runs to the kitchen.

If I remove those wires it seems nothing would be connected to the socket on the face plate so when I plugged the adsl filter in there would be no connection...or is there some sort of bridge connection between the test socket and the face plate?

Before I go and butcher our extension, should I post a pic of the wires I am planning to disconnect?

I will be pulling out wires 1-6 from the faceplate, re-screwing the faceplate back on and connecting via the front socket on the faceplate.

If you look at the back of the faceplate you should be able to see that it plugs into the test socket when it's in place.

I noticed that, does the male connection bottom right that goes into the test socket have some sort of internal bridge connection that links to the faceplate front socket?

the connection for the phone is on the back of the test socket :)
