I'm just about to pick up a set of 4 cheap R33 GTS-T brake callipers (and a matching master cylinder) the only problem with them is they have been painted blue.

I either need to get rid of the blue paint or I'm going to have to paint them black. I'd rather just get rid of it as I'm aiming for more of a sleeper look on this car.

So what's the best way to get rid of the paint that isn't going to destroy any seals?

Wire brush or media blasting maybe? Otherwise can't you get the paint stripping gel and just brush that on?

Just grab a can of brake cleaner and spray the things to oblivion, it takes paint straight off :)

Not if painted properly.

Ive got a knotted wire brush that attaches to my angle grinder, its seriously hardcore and if you press on too firmly it will remove metal quite easily.

Try a normal wire brush and if needed step up to a knotted one, think I got it from halfords, wasnt cheap but it works very well!

Wire brush. DO NOT whatever you do use any kind of solvent, be it alcohol or organic based (i.e. Nitromors or equivalent). You will certainly notice if anything that shouldn't get near piston seals manages to.

Sounds like a lot of effort ;) Guess I'll just paint them black instead.

Any recommendations for a good brand of black calliper paint? I happened to be in Halfrauds earlier but they only do blue or red. Also any special procedures that need to be done to make it stick, since I've never sprayed anything before.

G2 seems to be highly recommended but you have to order it off ebay as its from the USA.

I've just done mine but not sure what make the paint was as I didnt buy it.

I got a wire bruch on a drill, used brake cleaner and then got the wire brush on it untill I was happy.

Actually just noticed you're going to spray it. I used a brush so may be a totally different technique.

I just assumed it'd come in a rattle can, if it has to be done with a brush then I'll do it that way.

Just another thought - if you're going to wire brush them at all, use a brass wire brush, not a steel one. The brass should be adequate at removing the old paint, but not so harsh that it eats through the galvanising on the calipers (assuming it hasn't rusted through already).
