Removing glue left behind from parking tickets?

Howdo all, some extremely annoying twonk has stuck a parking ticket style envelope on the roof of my car (like one of those "Documents inside" packets). I've managed to get the envelope off my roof but it's left about a matchbox sized square of dried glue and, as it's on the paint, I can't scrape it off.

As it's similar to a parking ticket, and I guess people might have had to do the same after removing their ticket, has anyone got any "sensible" ideas for removing it that doesn't involve fire, nuking it from orbit or adopting a boxing stance :D

Thanks!

Wouldnt use nail polish remover. I remember using it and it ruined any plastics around it and dulled the paintwork slightly. WD40 is as good as olive oil as said.

I did not read properly, I just assumed glass; do not use brake fluid on paintwork!

Nail varnish will also strip wax from paint so WD40 is the way...

Thanks for the replies folks! Although just to be clear it wasn't a parking ticket, that was just the closest thing I could think of to visually describe what the sticky envelope actually was and the residue it left. I've no idea what it really is, who put it there or why!

I've got some WD40 so I'll give it smash in a min and see how well it works!

Autoglym Intensive Tar remover will shift it if the WD40 doesn't. If you do use the tar remover, you will need to rewax/seal that area as it will also strip any waxes or sealants :)

Well WD40 didn't even scratch the surface :D

The glue residue has hardened yet even after leaving it 5mins to soak in, the WD40 hadn't made a dent. That "sticky stuff remover" product sounded familiar to my mate who swears he's used it on a ticket attached to his passenger window so for £4 I might give that a blast next.

If you get really stuck paraffin will sort it for you, will take off any sealant too....how you actually get hold of some might be trickier though!
