Hi all :)
First, I did a search on this but, got so many different answers, and conflicting results, I just had to come here and post my question:)

Had my new gaming rig built for me, and pre-installed with Windows7 64bit and, all the latest drivers..My spec: i7 2600k, Two GTX 580 Sli, 16 gigs ram.
Now, I wish to upgrade to the new drivers from nVidia (From-v280.26) to-v285.62....How do I do this?
I have heared about Driver Sweeper, and starting Windows7 in Safe Mode...But what is the right or best way to remove, so as not to have any conflics?....How do "YOU" guy's do it?

Cheers for your time in answering  ;)

I only do a clean sweep if going from ati to nvidia or vice versa, if I'm just upgrading the drivers then I just run them and let the installer deal with it.

As above, I'd just upgrade the driver itself. You could view what files the drivers are made up from by going to the properties of the GFX card in device manager.

There wont only be files though, there will also be registry keys and perhaps a service. Is there an entry in Add/Remove programs?

Hi..Thanks for the reply's :)..Yes, there is an entry in Add/Remove programs...Is it really as easy as that?...That's what's so confusing, when searched, all these different methods of removal  Can I just remove from Add/Remove programs, and all will be fine?

Cheers...

Usually I...

Remove from Add/Remove progs
Restart
Install new drivers
Restart

But when I can't be bothered (not sure if this is a sin):
I just install over the top.

Perhaps. You've nothing to lose by trying it. Run the Add/Remove, reboot and then check in Device Manager to see if it is using a generic Video card or has an '!' against it.

nVidia's installer removes the drivers properly, running a new installer allows you to run a clean install as well.

There's no need to mess around any other way.

Cheers for all the info....Yep!, just did it that way...No problems at all ;)
I suppose people have their own way of doing things...But that just confuses people like me who don't know a lot :o...The simplest way is always the best ;)

Many thanks to all you guy's...Your teaching me more each day...Don't know where I'd be without this forum ;)

Cheers...
