Having a senior moment tonight:o, can't think of the name of the software to remove Nvidia drivers & all the assoicated crud, before installing a 5870 & Catalyst drivers.

New card in first (to stop it auto-reinstalling the nvidia drivers), remove via control panel, then:

Run command prompt in admin mode
Type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" without quotes, it'll act like nothing has happened but fear not
Type devmgmt.msc and keep command prompt open
In device manager, go to view->show hidden devices, that should show you the 8800GT under display adapters. Right click and uninstall.

That's what I do, anyway.

This is what I would do:

1 Uninstall Nvidia drivers from control panel (display, hd sound, 3d, physx etc)
2 Restart in safe mode
3 Run Driver Sweeper and remove all Nvidia drivers properly (some would be left behind)
4 Turn off PC and remove old card then install new card
5 Start PC in safe mode
6 Install ATI drivers
7 Restart PC

It isn't. Windows 7 allows you to run cards from both AMD and Nvidia at the same time and plenty of people do for PhysX etc, there's no need to remove every little trace with a driver cleaner, just remove from control panel like normal.
