Last Year (or maybe the year before) My old XP workshop PC system had got very clunky so I decided the time had come to upgrade. For various reasons I got a FULL version of Win 7. I installed an SSD, set it to C: and set the old XP HDD to D:

Unfortunately I made the mistake of not disconnecting the HDD while installing Win 7 to the SSD so I ended up with an unwanted dual boot set up (Why does set-up not ask whether I might want a dual boot or not??)

Now I want to get rid of it completely, Install win 8 to the SSD and set the HDD as a backup.

How do I get rid of the XP dual boot?? I have done a web search and though the questions seem to be asked fairly often (So I am not the only one with this problem!) the answers seem to be inconsistent and the procedures suggested something of a PITA! :(

Is there a definite way of doing this?
Is there a procedure that isn't a complete ****ache? (EG Might disconnecting the HDD and booting from the Win7 DVD (It wont boot normally with the HDD disconnected) and set it to "Repair Windows" achieve the desired result)

Thanks for reading
