Removing points from license

why do you have to update your counterpart? isn't it updated electronically? Or would the points get stacked onto expired points if you don't get it renewed? archaic system if you ask me.

You're right, I see no point in a counterpart either. Even hire car companies will ring the DVLA and ask for information on points.

The whole point of using the new type of licence was because the old one was too big. But then they brought out the card (great idea) with the stupid counterpart (bad idea, and larger than the old licence!). Mad if you ask me, as above, the counterpart should just be binned off and a chip put on the card which stores the information electronically or similar.
 
Fair point. Also why on earth do I have to send in my licence to my insurance company if it's all electronic now, and why can't post offices hook into it instead of being the Nazi's they are.
