Removing shortcut arrows from icons

Ive got a few shortcuts on my desktop and I want to remove the small arrow in the corner, can this be done?

In XP using MS Power Tools TWEAKUI.

In Vista using FrameworkX FxVisor v1.3.

EDIT : Now called Vista Shortcut Manager v 2.0.

On XP using registry (remember to backup):

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
IsShortcut key, right click on it and select delete.
Reboot.

There is no need to mess with REG in XP when MS's own Free Tools make it easy to choose No/Light/Full Arrow and is easy to reverse any changes.

I use fxvisor64 to remove those ugly arrows.

Grab new build m8 (just found it as I helped OP), its got more options and I sometimes had a bug with 1.3 where it would remove all Arrows when screen refeshed (I had Light Blue Arrows) and it would be OK next Reboot.

Yes as Powertools all simply use a GUI to do something that can be done by other methods so its safer and not 3rd party.

You want to be careful as some apps, if not most, that claim to remove the arrow under Vista as they will break the game folder ui.

I used this around 3 months ago to remove the shortcut arrow and haven't had any problems.

The one I told you to use on Vista in all of 18month (inc new update) DOES NOT break the GAME FOLDER/BROWSER.

Last time I used it, that app broke the game browser folder (I could still view it but opening games from there resulted in an error message). Unless they've fixed that I'd recommend the link in my previous post over it.

Well I can only go by my own findings, never broke my PC before or after update.

Possibly something else broke yours.

No I researched it at the time and it was a well known issue. It's possible it's been rectified since either in that app or a windows update but if you're on Vista and using that app you should check if the games folder actually lets you open a game or not.

All 9 Games load up np's

P.S, I know about that issue but even manually messing with shortcut arrow in the Registry could cause it.
