Removing stripes

Not sure if this has been covered before, but I have some 'racing stripes' stuck down the sides of my car which came as standard and they are beginning to peel a bit at the ends and looking a bit untidy.

Whats the best way to remove them without damaging the paintwork and getting rid of the residue thats left behind?

Peel the stripes off very slowly, as this way, most of the glue should remain stuck to the strip.

For any remaining glue, either a bucket of hot soapy water or a bit of t-cut will do the trick.

Boiling water will soften the glue (although it should already be pretty soft in this weather tbh

)

I found white spirit gets the residue off well. Might need to t-cut, as the paint underneath has been covered, so won't have faded the same as the rest.

Another vote for white spirit. That stuff will work very well

Right, well the stripes are off and most of the glue gone thanks to the white spirit. All paint is ok - doesn't look faded or too bright etc, except a small bit of laquer came off the rear side panel

doesn't look too bad, but i'll have to touch it up...

There are still some hard lines left where the edge of the stripes were that seem a bit resiliant to white spirit. It comes off if you scratch it slightly with your nail. T-cut?

edit: also something that was wierd- the driver side stripe had a sorta under-layer of glue as well as the actual stripe - like one stripe over the other, but the passenger side was just a single strip. wierd.

I had some rather horrible stripes on my Cinquecento... I used a hair dryer, some white spirit to get the glue off and just waxed it... looks normal
