Cleaned my dturbo today and realised that there are fine specs of black tar all over the car.. mainly on the boot  :(

the road outside the farm re-surfaced yesterday by the council and I can't complain because they did our drive for us aswell :p

Whats the best product to try and remove this stuff ?

I was thinking t-cut but I don't want to cut through the laquer, would a claybar do it ?

I dont see why you cant complain? Its not like there going to come and dig it up agen.

my mk2 mondeo was covered in specs of tar, i bought some tar remover from halfords, didn't work at first so used a scrubbing brush worked well, then polished.. then 3 hours later the car was wrote off :p

Its just not the way I do things.. complaining would be a waste of time, knowing the SCC they would probably send a man round with a wire brush..

and I'm pretty sure that the stuff thats on my car is sprayed on the road prior to the tarmac laying, sisters boyfriend says its a sort of adhesive :(

EDIT - Unlucky Danny !

Autoglym tar remover to get the big bits off then give the whole bodywork a clay would be my advice.

i used a spong with the rough pad on one side, your mum will have in her kitchen sink lol

I hope to God you didn't use the rough side?

A decent tar remover followed by a clay bar. Use plenty of lubricant, Megs last touch or quick detailer and use light backward and forward motions on the paint. Sonus green would be your best bet to start with as it is not too abrasive.

Use a third of the bar at a time, remember to turn it regularly and if you drop it, bin it.

I had 7 years worth of the stuff on my car when i bought it. I didn't give it a thought and ordered a load of cleaning/polishing/wax then when i came to do it i couldn't due to a load of tar all over the lower 1/3 of the car.

I used Autoglym intensive tar remover followed by a clay bar. It takes ages to get it off, i found dabbing the product on then leaving for a few mins helps to soften it up. Then you may need to rub the tar a bit to remove it, make sure you use a micro fiber cloth to reduce the risk of marking your paint. It should be easier for you to see when they're gone as its a light colour unlike mine.

Then when you've got the tar off give it a clay to get any tar off thats bonded to the paint. The clay bar may not be necessary but i found my bar going black with tar despite spending ages with the tar remover.

Use a drop of cellulose thinners, it's bad news if the cars been painted in anything other than 2 pack Acryllic though  Then give it a good T cut.

I've used white spirit before (Ford metallic paint). It didn't seem to affect the paintwork at all, and the tar came off pretty quickly. I'd probably go for a specialist tar removal product though; would hate for you to ruin yer motor.

claybar can induce marring if used too vigorously.

the best tar remover is autosmart tardis, that will remove all traces of tar with barely any follow-up claying needed. It will need re-waxed/sealed afterward though

edit: forgot to mention, tardis is "professional" strength so be careful with it if you ever use it
