Can anyone recommend a free program capable of removing the black frame from around video footage?

I've tried using Handbrake. While it does the job, I'm losing too much video quality and the audio for some reason.

Thank you

Thanks, I take it vdub is short for VirtualDub.

What's the best way to convert my WMV files into AVI files?

I've found a vdub filter to do this, but can't get it to work.

Would someone please recommend a programme (free is poss) that will allow me to crop a WMV file? All I want to do is remove the black frame that surrounds the footage.

Thank you

Thanks, I actually did quite a bit of research before posting here. There are so many different programmes on the internet that claim to do what I want, that either don't or are loaded with spyware etc... I've tried numerous programmes over the past few days but none of them are giving me the desired result.

vdub 1.3c will handle a lot of those files ,, the later after 1.3d version they had to take out the wmv handling as microsoft told them to they didnt like there format included in vdub, so maybe look for older version

to use it load the file in question open video/filters then add theres a vast array of what you wish to do ,, you can add a title in place of the movie segments/frames or go to bottom and you will see clipping there you can take out the frames it will reduce file size and you can encode it to what ever format vdub and you want to achieve.

like ive said doom.org and videofile helper ill provide step by step guides for all your above q's the converting and cropping of the frames its really esy to follow there directions.

good luck
