Sure I'm just being thick here! It's one of those things I know how to do in Windows but can't see where it is in mac...

On my home network I've got lots of shared hard drives / folders. On my Windows 7 PC's I've got them mounting the shares at boot and I've assigned them meaningful names.

On my Mac I've got it mounting shares at boot too, however I can't see how to rename it.

For example, on PC1 is its "Second Drive". On PC2 this name was pretty useless so I've named it on there "Study PCs Second Hard Drive". This doesn't actually do anything to the drive on its host (PC2), it's just what PC1 refers to it as in windows explorer.

On my Mac I can't find a way of doing it. It's mounted on my desktop as "Second Drive" but the name and extension box on get-info is grayed out .

So guys, where do I change it?

Cheers,

My drives are mounted and get the name from the Windows share

Yep that's what I've done for now, given it a share name on the host PC.

Thing is, on my other PCs I've been able to rename what they show it as in Windows Explorer, but on my Mac it's only showing the share name.

Unless I can find a way, I'll make the share name what I want it to be displayed as on my Mac and then change it individually on the client PCs.
