I quite like mk1 Lagunas...

Slammed on big multispokes...Supertourer-style. Nice.

Agreed, they suit that look really well.

I was partial to that orange Rover V8 RWD one that was doing the rounds a few years back. That rocked

It's a pity they are utter crap.

When I was looking at cars a couple of years ago I saw a mint 1999 1.8 laguna with just 30k on the clock for a fantastic price, I was so tempted but straight out of Uni with no job lined up at that point if it had given me trouble i'd have been stuffed so I gave it a miss :(

IMO they are nice cars but way too much of a gamble.

I remember that - was on the cover of Max Power, if I recall correctly. Owned by a drag racer?

I had a lease Laguna for 3 years and although I really liked the car, it caused me quite a few problems.
I had the drive shaft shear of not once, not twice, but THREE times.
Luckily the lease company paid all the repair bills otherwise it would've cost many thousands in total to fix.
a drive shaft sheering thousands of pounds? its a 30 mins job and £60-£100 part max

Jamez,
Have you looked at the Rover 618 - lovely car and cheap enough to insure ;)

Also consider the old accords if you want reliability.

Dare I say it, ever thought about a Vectra?

Hope not, becuase it's dire. Rubbish.

Good cheap big cars:

a) Ford Mondeo
b) Nissan Primera
c) Rover 618/623 (Honda engined ones)
d) Peugeot 406/a GOOD Xantia

Anything else, IMHO, either rubbish value (Accord, Passat), ancient (Cavalier), or just a liability (Laguna). Or just naff (Vectra, Carisma, Carina).
