I use Poser and Vue quite a lot with these

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) overclocked
16gig of RAM
Asus P8Z68-V Intel Z68

I was wondering would 32gig of RAM be better than 16gig for rendering, is it needed or is it more to do with processors

I need a new GFX card, at the moment I am using onboard GFX as I took both old ones out, 2 x 8800GT using SLI, one has a problem

Now render times on screen are not really affected with out a GFX card, but I do need a new one, I do not play games

These 2 I have just looked at

Gigabyte HD 7770 OC 1024MB

MSI HD 7770 GHz Edition 1024MB GDDR5
Code:

What are the benefits of using 2 GFX cards? Or is it more for gaming

Want to spend up to £150

Thanks for any help

I used photoview 360 rendering package in solidworks while at uni. On high res renders (6000 x 4000) i found my RAM had run out (I have 8GB) This was causing it to go really really slow, so more RAM would help if your experiencing these issues.

As for a GPU, if your using 3D programs Nvidia's CUDA will help. You can get a great Nvidia GPU secondhand. You could even get a 580 for around your budget..

more ram would be better

and see if your program supports openGL as well, as if it supports it, then any make of card would do

same again mind you, 2gb card better than a 1gb one, so if you sli 2 1gb cards, you still only have 1gb but yes more power, but less ram

so a faster single card with 2gb would be better

also what hdd do you use?

Just a normal hdd, I bet an SSD is what you would say is better

So more RAM
Nvidia card with 2gb

SLI is not needed I am guessing

no not really, not on a budget.

just get another drive same as you have got and raid0 that

if not on a budget then yes a faster single device would be better, sdd or a quick raptor etc maybe, or any 2 good drives in raid0 if money is tight

you only need more ram if your actually using it, if you add more more but the models your working with never use that ram then it is sitting doing nothing. use task manager to monitor your current memory usage.

Also find out if your software is using cuda before you bother with that, if poser or vue dont support cuda then its a complete waste. tbh almost any video card will do the job unless your doing really polygon intensive work, if your not playing games either you probably dont need to spend much, i use a lowly ati 6450 1gb on my second pc which cost ~£30 and it copes surprisingly well when doing 3d modelling etc. Of course a better card will do better, but i'm wondering if you are getting away with the igp, do you really need a powerfull card? That machine with 16gb of ram would run out of system ram before the gfx card really became a limitation.

Thanks a lot, given me something to think about now

1 card with 2gb, or a cheaper one
More RAM
SSD drive

Using SSS on poser close ups takes time, will monitor it
