Renting a flat in Manchester

Just had a quick look at some places at Fresh, look a bit pokey for the price personally! I think where I am at the moment is 750-800 square feet.

I will go take a look at some urban splash stuff in Ancoats before completely dismissing it but just a few people on here and mates have said its not the nicest place to live but can depend how far away from city centre you go!

Fresh is a bit pokey for sure. Though I should also say that the apartments in the NQ were (and still are) some of the largest I have seen in Manchester.

The sizes seen in "Fresh!" are more indicative.

Our current place is enormous, but then again its buying price reflected that. We are lucky that as there as three of us, we split the rent three ways, so £1000 becomes £333 each. So we get to live in somewhere that cost somebody £250,000 to buy initially...

The GQ apartments do command a premium, but there is a reason for that, and thats the security, general quality and generous space the apartments offer, I sound like a salesman for the place ;) but its definately true. I' go back there in a shot if I didnt need a 3 bed (no 3 beds anywhere in the GQ).

Also, you might want to look out to Castlefield. While it has a bit of a posh reputation, there are some very nice places out there and things are in a bit of a slump at the moment, so there seemed to be places to be had. I really like Castlefield. Maybe even consider Sport City area, though thats getting further out.

Do you know the name of the development in Ancoats? (sory if you have already posted it) as Urban Splash stuff is usually pretty good, though most of it is around Castlefield.

One I saw was called Chips;
New Islington
Manchester
M4 6EB

I'll make sure I have a look around Castlefield as well, Sport City is a bit further out that way than I wanted.
I think I have got a good flat in the GQ, the biggest I saw so I might have gotten a good price for £700pcm and now expecting everything else to be of similar quality when its highly unlikely!

I gave up and moved too Glossop! Living alone in Central Manchester was just too much money, and seeing with work I get to see the worse areas and people in Manchester I've come to realise it's hard to find anywhere 'nice' that not surrounded by chavs, poverty and crime that's not £££ and City Centre based.

It's definately an issue. The guy I lived with in the GQ (we lived in Barton Place) moved to Epsom afterwards and bought a similar 2 bed flat, he still pines for the GQ though. So it's not jut Manchester, I think nationwide the general quality of the GQ is above average.

I'd hit Rightmove and just see what there is. I mean there are even a few nice warehouse conversions down by the universities. Macintosh Mill, that kind of place. We saw a unique and frankly lovely 3 bed penthouse place in there that wasnt even that expesnive at the time, it was vertainly no moreso than a 3 bed in fresh. The only issue was parking for us, it didnt have a space and there were no free ones to be allocated.

Rightmove is nearly always out of date ;) but its a good way to see all the properties people are offering, I wouldnt be too scared of smaller agents now either tbh, with the advent of the tenancy deposit schemes, you're pretty well protected.
