Renting a new flat... a question!

He sounds like a bit of a cowboy to me - personally I'd leave well alone and find yourself a better prospective landlord.
Seconded.

He sounds in the rant like the type of person that you could have problems with in the future.

Would try and find somewhere else if possible.

Thirded

on my third rental property, i wouldnt even entertain this guy with thoughts of renthing anything off him....... a good landlord would definately not say "you ask too many questions"

I'd leave it and find somewhere else, you'd be stuck with that guy for a while and he doesn't sound like the kind of bloke I'd want looming over my home.

But... don't be stressed about handing over bank statements. When we bought our flat we had to hand over bank statements (printed as we bank online). And paycheques. And they did a credit check. And ran it through their affordablilty calculator. And we had to hand in written letters from our respective managers to confirm our overtime. And they contacted our HR's to confirm we really were being paid.

Money-related stuff sucks sometimes :D

Exactly - that's my experience and far far more reasonable than asking for bank statements.

Credit checks don't always give the full story. Someone with no debt and who only uses a debit card could have a lower credit rating than someone with a loan, plus card with money on but has never missed a minimum payment.
