Hi all,

I have just got a call today that I have a new job (yay go me!) in Leeds and wondering if anyone on here can help with some quick information.

I am after a 1 bed apartment near to, and within walking distance to the city centre, what are the areas to avoid, are more for student accommodation or is there anywhere that is a nice area to aim for and to move into?

cheers

That sounds like a big list of places to avoid, just to jump on this too what is the city centre like? lots of apartments around there.

Where on earth is Compton?

With your budget, you should have no problems getting a one bed flat in the centre. It might even be a nice one.

If outside of the centre there aren't too many choices really unless you head outside the ring road. Chapel Allerton is good erm.... can't really think of any more :p The far end of headingley is okay (past the student area). Probably best sticking to the centre :p

Might be worth looking at commuter towns as well that are 1 or 2 stops away from Leeds station.

Clarence Dock/New Dock or whatever they are calling it now could be a shout, it's about 10/15 minutes walk from the city centre but the area hasn't really taken off so you can probably negotiate a good deal on the rent.

I'd personally avoid West Point because they've had main water supplies cut off there on more than one occasion and not for a short amount of time either. But because of this negative impression you might be able to get a good deal and just hope there's no further issues :p

Hyde Park and Woodhouse are student areas - although Woodhouse is far 'rougher' than Hyde Park, which is way more vibrant, full of restaurants and bars, you could very easily find a one bedroom flat in Hyde Park for the budget you have, and it is, I would say, a 15-20 minute walk to the city center (but I may just walk quickly) as i lived there for a year. Have a look at the New York Apartments in the city center of Leeds, would be perfect location and still within budget surprisingly! Newly built so modern furnishings! Alternatively Clarence Dock would be a great place to stay! lots of options!

cheers for all the feedback folks, ive settled on 2-3 different apartments to have a viewing with and hopefully one of them will be fine!

Look at Crispin lofts to see if there are any available, me and the missus wanted to live there but couldn't afford :(

Just look online, Clarence Dock is a bit out of the way but there are thousands upon thousands of flats in the centre of Leeds so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Yeah don't live anywhere near Hyde Park, that side of the uni has so nasty areas including the most burgled street in Britain.

Chestnut avenue? I used to live there. Good times. Apparently the reason why it's classed as the most burgled street is because during world cup 2002 pretty much everyone on that street were in the pub watching the England match which meant around 10 houses got broken into in one afternoon :p
