Renting in London

You might also want to take a look at Dulwich and also North Lambeth (the area from Waterloo towards Kennington).

House sharing is your only option initially. And on that basis, I cannot digress or expand on anything Rich said.

I house shared when I first moved back to London after Uni (was bought up in London before going to Uni in Bournemouth). I was in a place in Camden, funnily enough, and it was a great laugh.
I then got promoted and was then able to afford my own flat after some time.

Rent on my 1 bedroom flat in Docklands is £520 a month plus bills and thats CHEAP for this area! Deffo consider flat or house sharing mate - its the best thing to do to keep costs down.

You pay 46 quid but your sharing a house....why would anyone want to share a house, a house is suppost to be yours alone?

I think you're missing the point here. Its not a case of moving into a house with other random people - I live with my girlfriend and 2 of my best friends. There are lots of reasons why I'd want to do that! Financial is one of them, as (as has been said) sharing is cheaper, but theres also the social side of it. Would you really want to be living in a house by yourself? Personally I'd get lonely, but more than that theres also the attraction of your friends being a flight of stairs away, rather than a street or a suburb away.

Why is a house supposed to be yours alone? Would you rather live by yourself in a studio flat than in a decent house, with friends? (Seriously?!)

£520 a month inclusive will get you a decent-ish 2/3 bedroom place in and around Camden Town,

Without claiming to know too much about it, are you sure about that? 3 bedrooms for 520 a month is only £173 each a month, or about £40 a week each. That seems a trifle low! If you can really get a decent place for that little, I'll have to reconsider moving south after I graduate.

EDIT - I may be being a muppet. Did you mean £520 a month, or £520 a month each?

£520 a month each I should imagine, which still isn't too bad for a 2 bed flat in Camden.

Stratford seemed ok when I went there, it is on the central line too :)

Good luck!

I've got a large double-room in a 4-bedroom house-share in the Docklands for £455 pcm all inc.

I'm only on £20k, and if I didnt have my loan and credit card repayments, I'd still have about £400 a month disposable income
