Repair / replace downpipes?

My Yamaha Fazer 600 has developed an exciting new exhaust tone and it appears that the bottom section (under the engine) is rusting through, although the rest of the downpipes and the silencer cans look ok.

I'll try a bit of Gun Gum (or whatever they have in my local auto shop) for a temporary fix, but just wondering about the longer term options and would appreciate some input please.

1) A new set of downpipes seems the obvious solution - where would be the cheapest place to get a set that will fit correctly and not rust in five minutes? A Google search throws up http://www.intobikes.co.uk/products...O4uXTFO9yvJAWbCODpckSMltKO6ROv0Y_lRoCDnDw_wcB

2) Are there any economically priced, complete after market exhaust systems worth considering? I'm not looking for race cans, however for a previous bike of mine it worked out cheaper to buy a new exhaust system than to just replace bits with original manufacturer parts.

3) Is it worth looking at getting it welded, or is that not going to last long enough to be worth the money?

Cheers!

once the rot starts in the collector its hard to stop it ... get some replacment stainless downpipes and aftermarket can

Or if your really cheap..

3 Coke cans split down the sides, lots of gunk and 2 jubilee clips. Lasted about 2 years on old bandit i had :)

Ahh, one of the bad things about owning a grey import - lack of exhaust choice. All I can find at the moment is a yoshimura silencer for £350 or an eBay Hong Kong special for £60 :(

If it's a typical Honda bolt on can with three bolts then it's very possible something from a more common model would fit. Is there an owners forum etc. where you could ask?

Yeah it is the 3 bolt fitting - there's a few bikes that have the same figment but info is light on the ground, the 400greybike forum has some info but not a huge amount, it's not a very busy forum.

I actually enjoy having to hunt around for parts/watch eBay like a hawk tbh, there's a few possibilities that may fit and if not the yoshi can is a good fall back option, no removable baffle though. They even do a full titanium system for the cb400 :D

You could always take a few pics of the bolts etc and email it to a Honda dealer. If they are nice enough they might be able to give you some advice?
