I'm going to my dentist tomorrow as the front part of my top left molar (second from last one) broke away. Here's a picture I've drawn to give you an idea. The front enamel has come away exposing what I think is a filling that I must have had done. So the front is now flat (well, slightly more sunken than in my drawing) with a serated edge that my tongue can feel. Can this be filled or veneered? I'm hoping it's not a crown job because it's about £700 just for the tooth. I have to be careful brushing that tooth because there's a slightly exposed nerve at the top.

Just had LOADS of work done at my dentist.

Tooth extraction (previous root filling) - £165
3 x Minor fillings - £285

I think your options are "Root Filling" or "Tooth Extraction". Seeing as its a molar (my extraction was upper left, 3rd from back) i wuld have the "tooth Extraction"

In my extremely non expert opinion, I expect they will be able to do something there. I would have thought they will have to work down into the remaining tooth though so it may be rather painful on that nerve.

If it is your second from last molar then you should be able to get away with an NHS silver crown as you won't really be able to see it unless you have your mouth open wide. This costs a lot less than a white crown (about £200 v £600)

Nhs dentist fixed similar to that for me for £45 -maybe slightly less lost
I was expecting to lose it but she was happy time build it up with and just advised a bit more caution on chewing hard food that side

Well, your replies sound promising. About the NHS silver crown, I agree, the tooth is not visible even when I smile. He's a private dentist though, so I've no idea if he will do that. He tends to prefer porcelain crowns, so I'll push him for the cheaper option. So long as I can keep the tooth (as I really prefer not to lose it, visible or not) I don't mind spending around £200.

Rofl, the nhs pays me about £14 to extract a tooth.
Those fillings are pretty hefty in cost too, our maximum would be around £85.

Booking in for an assessment, just what I've been after! Cheers :)

No worries, just bear in mind that I think each dentist can set their own prices for Denplan so yours may be different.

It also depends on your 'risk', I'm band A which means I have nothing more than fillings etc. If you have crowns you go into band B which cost more and so on.

The extraction i thought was decent value as he did a quality job.

The fillings equate to £95 each, which is not far away from your £85.

My dentist is very good at what he does. I was at an NHS practice before that, and in all honesty, some of the work they did was poor.

I will happily pay decent money for a good service, especially where my health and wellbeing is concerned.

Wow reading these prices makes me glad I'm with a Denplan dentist.

I've had fillings and a root canal all for about £11 a month, seems like amazing value to me!

My misses gets this free through work as shes a dental nurse and apparently can add another person to her plan, I knew she'd come in useful one day!

My dentist just pasted Glass Ionomer on to protect the tooth and allow me to brush with no sensitive nerves. As I expected, It's a crown job though. He said he could do a filling {about £150) but the chances are it would break and I'd lose the whole tooth. So porcelain crown bonded to metal, £700 inc the work. :( Two sessions on 16th & 30th, an hour, and a half hour.
