Hi there,

I am upgrading the RAM in somebody's computer which is a Dell T7400, at the moment it has 4GB of Fully buffered PC2-5300 memory. He wants to upgrade it to 10GB but the price of fully buffered ram is ridiculous, the computer is not a server so I was wondering would it be possible to just replace the fully buffered PC2-5300 with regular unbuffered PC2-5300?

Cheers,

Henry

If i remember correctly only certain motherboards can support fully buffered ram, so whether or not that motherboard will support unbuffered ram is the key question to answer. I'd just find out the model number and a quick google will give you your answer.

You will need check with Dell but in many cases you can run unbuffered ram in board that support buffered ram.

Some I've seen will happily run both at the same time (disabling the buffering on the buffered ram) whilst others will run one or the other.
