Replace i7 920 D0 2.66GHz

if i remember correctly. i used 1.45 for 4.45ghz. so you may be able to lower it some more. the lower the better, assuming it stays stable of course!

core volt was on auto. oops. Now set to 1.325

Hi, great you can try to reduce it a bit more but 1.325v in the Bios is ok, if its stable . l will put up the instructions + settings for using Dynamic Vcore(DVID) if you have this setting in the Bios, as this reduces just the idle voltage a bit more.

I'm using it and it reduces my idle voltage to about 1.024v when CPU is idling which should help to reduce temps a bit more. :)

COOL! pun intended

I used to have a 920 and the same board as you, it was really good and as you've seen it's no problem to hit 4GHz!

To help reduce temperatures, I would personally try dropping the Vcore 0.005v at a time (leave the other voltages the same), and testing with Prime until you hit a crash/bluescreen. Once you hit a crash, adjust it back up by 0.002v at a time until it's stable again and you should be golden.

If you've had your PC a while, a cooler clean and remount can work wonders too.

Interesting thread. Can I assume most of the settings would be the same for my I7 950? Was thinking about overclocking it.
Off topic (sorry OP - might be helpful to you as well?) what is the max temp and voltage for these I7s?

I'll second the cooler clean idea if you've not done it in a while!
My old i5 750 has an Arctic Freezer 7 Rev 2 and dropped 5 degrees idle, 15 degrees load with just a good clean - OK, it was really manky so I'd not hope for that level for most people but still worth doing. I just removed the fan, hovered the heat sink and popped the fan back on, no effort :)
