I bought a Dell Vostro 3550 from almost new in september 2011, it had hardly been used by the previous owner and he'd put it back to factory default. In the last few weeks the Toshiba MK5061GS hard drive in it developed a problem, two reallocated sectors. I've been able to continue using it but it freezes, hangs, blue screens quite a lot and is getting worse. I've just ordered a WD Scorpio Black 500GB which comes tuesday, and not a moment too soon as I reckon this drive is all but dead. Are the toshiba drives generally not very good or was I just unlucky?

I had a Toshiba 500 gb drive in my last laptop and it was very good. My current laptop came with a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB in and it gave better benchmarks but it seemed slow so i got a 1TB samsung drive.

Each person has different experiences with HDDs and so form differing opinions.

Personally of c. 40-50 Western Digital I have installed, two have failed.

Seagate used to be solid, and will come back strong as they have acquired both LaCie and Samsung HDDs.

Samsung are now made by Seagate.

Toshiba. Barge. Pole.
