Hi everyone,

I've replaced i7 cpu cooler with a Noctua NH U12P on my gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard. Now when I turn the machine on it turns on, all the fan starts spinning but after about 3 seconds it powers down, and then will power on again forming a repetitive loop.

There is no output to the monitor, and Ive tried removing the RAM and GPU but with no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Have you made sure to plug in the fan to CPU cooler header on the motherboard as well ?

Could you elaborate on this please? My cooler came with two three pin power cables and a Y splitter, this is connected to one of my fan controllers.

I also tried plugging in the stock cooler to the free CPU fan pin on my motherboard just to see if it would make any difference, but it didn't

Thats what I was on about, I wouldn't have expected it to boot without something plugged into the CPU fan pin. Does it boot if you remove the cooler and fit the old one ?

Hi TheKnat,

Yeah I did try that but with no luck.

I proceeded to reseat the CPU as well as the new HSF (after cleaning the current paste of first etc) and now all is well.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Suspect a loose cable, something knocked while changing the cooler.

I think the UD5 will boot fine without a fan on this header. Certainly mine's running without a fan there, though I have told the bios to ignore missing fans. I think my P5Q used to post then warn me that the cpu fan was faulty and refuse to finish booting until I resolved the issue (told the bios to ignore it).
