Replacement for GTX-295

Here's a thought to conjure with.

The GTX295 is a massively power hungry high end graphics card, what you have saved by keeping it has been lost several times over with its electricity consumption. People don't often factor power into the cost of a PC, but they should. At the moment thanks to the 3080 queue I don't have a PC with a GPU because I sold it and I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad on a port replicator together with the PC display and keyeboard.
Electricity consumption has dropped dramatically! Your current GPU uses 350W which is 1KWh every three hours use, lets say it's on 6 hours a day 5 days a week that's 10KWh over a year that's 520KWh (horrible how these things clock up) and at current costs of say 15p thats £78 a year - plus VAT of course! over 11 years its cost £858 probably more than the thing cost new!

The point here is that sometimes it's better to sell the old gear and soldier on with a modern laptop which will do even more than the old PC and cost less as well.

Before junking the old PC though, I was amazed to find that selling the components from an old PC will get you far more back than trying to sell it as a working unit. Parts for these machines aren't sold new and people who want to keep old tech going will pay more for it than you might think.

I hope it's given you some food for thought.

Agree with the above comment. That x58 board of the OP's will sell for a pretty penny if its fully working, a lot of them I've had tend to lose a couple of ram slots meaning you can't run triple chanel memory configs. Not sure of 295 prices. But damn look at the old voodoo cards, some sell for hundreds of pounds.

No need to overcomplicate things, the bloke just wants to add a different GPU for a third screen and you're talking about selling his core system because of energy consumption, and other nonsense :p
