I need to replace the Palit GTX275 I bought on here last year, it cant handle my clocked Q6600...

It crashes out after 10 mins of on-line COD WAW

Any thoughts what will be a 'worthy' repayment sub £200?

What is your cpu overclocked to? I ask because my first thought is that the cpu clock setting could be the issue here.

Does it happen in offline games?

How can you be sure its the gpu crashing and not the cpu?

If you only have overclocks on the cpu, then the first thing to do is try to play games with the cpu at default....

Its probrobably a case of your cpu not being stable.

i would just try a new psu and have a fiddle off your overclock and see if that solves it as a 275 is still a capable gpu

If its always after round about the same period of stress (10 mins) then its almost certainly heat related. I'd be inclined to Prime95 test the CPU.
And if that was OK run the CPU at stock and Furmark the 275. In both cases I'd have RealTemp running with the GPU temp showing too.

My bet is that the hsf fan or the gpu fan are aging and not as good as they once were or are carrying a heck of a lot of dust. Unless either have taken a knock and the TIM contact has been broken

Cheers,

OMG... it soon got to 85 degrees and the PSU started making a rattling noise / vibration  I have no doubt it was about to crash before I hit ESC

I didnt notice the fans getting louder, seems they are not increasing with load.

Perhaps new PSU and a dedicated cooler for the GFX?

Hi, yes it ramps up to 85+ and the power supply starts making a weird noise..

Ive cleaned the GFX with an aerosol type air blaster, it was very dusty but the was a day or so ago, the symptoms havnt changed...

Ill get the PSU sorted and then consider my options..

I tried increasing the fan speed but it didnt seem to make much difference, it still reached a point were the PSU started sounding like an old hard drive :)

Cheers

thats a normal temperature for a GTX275.

I agree with 100% with stulid. So it sounds to me (pun intended ) that the psu is on its last legs. BE VERY CAREFUL don't stress it. A psu that goes bang is not a nice thing. What make and wattage is it? And do you have a budget in mind for a new one?

Cheers,

SCRATCH MOST OF THAT - I forgot you already said what PSU you had and what you're getting :o

The newer card is simply a more capable card, however ive seen the difference in real performance over a well over clocked gtx260, and i would keep what you have tbh.
