Replacement GTX 470 Twin Frozr II Fan?

Hi. I have 2 GTX 470 Twin Frozr II graphics cards, running in SLI.
A while ago (about 3-4 months) one of the fans starting making noise when I first turned the computer on that day. I could rock the tower slightly a couple of times, and it would stop for the rest of the day, but then it would be the same the next morning when it was turned on again.

It has now gotten to the point where rocking the tower is not working, so I have to open the case up every morning and physically stop the fan moving a couple of times with my finger. After doing that a couple of times it usually shuts up.

So basically I want to find a replacement fan, one that doesn't require me to keep the shroud off, so a direct replacement if possible. Also I know a lot of people are going to be desperate to tell me all the expensive GPU coolers I could buy instead, but please try and constrain yourselves.

The fan is a Power Logic DC 12v 4 pin brushless fan Model PLD08010S12HH.

contact MSI , getting the right fan with exactly the same mounting holes
will be easier if you contact them directly

Thanks for the info. I was going to contact MSI, but I heard someone else had a problem with the fan on their graphics card and they wanted $50 plus postage to fix it.

Thanks for the link rolypolyman, but I'm not too keen on trusting websites that show the Union Jack to symbolise Germany :D

Your card is in warranty. There is no way it can be more than three years old because they simply have not existed for that long.

Out of warranty? I can believe it. But, they are responsible for repairing or replacing the card so it would be fan or complete RMA.

I would contact them. They're a very nice reasonable bunch I found.

The card is just over a year old (Ordered on 24th February, but probably installed mid March).

I tried asking on MSI's forums before I filled out the customer support form, but didn't get much joy:

For warranty in UK & Europe you need to do through your place of purchase.

you have to rma it via the shop, the shop eventually will send it to rma for repair

These were both posted by moderators. I especially like the word 'eventually' in there, nice way to build trust!

This morning I decided to check the graphics card out, and it's definitely the fan. I've now removed the entire card from my PC, so I'm just running on the one card. It might not be a problem though - SLi is always reset after a driver update, and I usually forget to re-enable it, but don't notice it in games.

Chase it! Your first port of call for rma issues is the retailer not msi, if you get no joy from the retailer then contact msi and say the place you bought it from refuses to help. In this case msi will contact the reseller or help you directly.

OCUK Got back to me nice and quick, and have given me a RMA number.

Quick question though - it lists "Desired action: Replace", If I use the retail box it came in, will I get that back (will I be getting a new GTX 470?).

I just want to know in case I want to sell it at a later date.

RMA says not to send back in your packaging as you won't get it back.

So does that mean my replacement won't be new?

Depends. If your card can be repaired they may repair it.
If they have an already repaired card kicking around they may send you that.
If they don't have a replacement sitting around (I'm going for this one) they may send you something else.

They'll most likely send you a 560ti of sorts IMO.

Well, if they can't replace like for like I would want a refund.
I have 2 GTX 470s, and I use them in SLI, a 560ti, although slightly better than a 470, would be utterly useless.

Don't Nvidia also do the non-identical SLi, where the superior card simply downgrades to the inferior card?

I am no expert on this, just think I read somewhere previously that this was possible.

NVM its the whole Optimus thing, totally different technologies. Ignore me I am going back to the corner.
