A lot of people on other forums seem to like those Eonon units. Whilst it will have an element of "cheap Chinese crap" about it, and I probably wouldn't buy one myself, they seem to offer a lot of functionality in a form factor that suits the Mondeo's dashboard layout.

You won't get nav with the cheaper 'branded' units though.

Thats fine. Im not sure I really need it but would have been nice. I can always buy the GPS module if I really want it anyway. I personally don't think without it it'll be a problem. Nothing good old fashioned map reading can't help with ;)

Ive been away from the ICE scene a while, i didnt think you could retro fit as much nowadays as so much was integrated.

A friend has a S Max with a Pioneer Avic, probably over your budget, but its a top unit, with the NAV being really good.

Im surprised companies havent come up with a unit that allows something like a Nexus tablet to be integrated.

A lot of the Chinese 7in headunits are really just tablets running either WinCE 6.0 or just pure android (4.2 mostly). I'm surprised that the idea hasn't become more mainstream but I think the 'long' boot up time of a tablet compared to a traditional stereo may put people off.

I'm thinking of the Eonon D5162E for my Mk4, just for the mix of bluetooth, Ipod, reverse camera and a standard look. However they seem hit & miss on quality!

I'd be looking for either a standard nav unit (not sure if these can be retrofitted) or one of the Chinese units as I think aftermarket standard sized units look a bit odd in place of non square units.

My only concern around the Chinese units is warranty and replacement parts. I've read a few where tbe can-bus module has been faulty and a replacement has taken some time to receive.

Popped in to Halfords to look at the Pioneer AVH-X3600DAB and wasn't impressed. Sluggish interface and not overly pretty, think I'll gve this one a miss.

Also found this Pioneer SPH-DA120 and while it looks nice, the lack of a CD player is disappointing. I also think I'd find the lack of physical buttons annoying and distracting.

I think the cheap Chinese unit will be the better option here.

Just ordered the Eonon D5162E from a "UK supplier" which should make any issues returning a faulty unit much easier. I've also ordered a CCD reverse camera & light which replaces the license plate bulb and a LED interior bulb kit (used seller before).

How has it been for you? Quick through the menu's? Any issues with fitting it?

*edit - just you you've just bought it - would be interested to know how it goes as this would save me from having to shell out on a better branded unit and an expensive GPS module!

I already have a very good Garmin Sat-Nav so this HU is mainly for the Bluetooth, Ipod and Reverse camera rather than for the Sat Nav. I'll be sticking iGO 8 maps on it anyway just to see how good it is as a Sat Nav.

I'll be doing a How-To of the fitting of both, although there's already quite a few on TalkFord anyway.

I've read a few how-to's on TF already and the process is pretty straight forward - the only concern to me is the can-bus module which seems to have a high failure rate - this was the only thing putting me off buying a HK model!

Adding iGo 8 maps would be interesting along with the signal quality of the radio!
