Well... first post :D

Basically i'm looking for some input on ISP's. I am currently an AOL customer (*awaits torrent of abuse*) paying £25 of my hard earned coinage for a feeble, "Upto 2mb" service.

Since purchasing broadband I haven't actually used th AOL software. So basically i'm paying this £25 just so I can connect to the net. I'm not actually taking advantage (if you could call it that) of AOL's features such as IM's, Chat Rooms, Parental Controls etc...

To be honest I don't need all of this fancy crap... I'm not gonna knock AOL like most do because to be honest i've never actually had any problems with it. I just figured its time I payed less for more. I mean a friend of mine is on an 8mb connection and is paying £15 a month.

I'm looking for an ISP which will provide unlimited bandwidth like AOL do but at the same time I wanting a quicker connection if it's possible to get one in my area.

My postcode is WF42AS... its a Wakefield address but a Barnsley telephone number. I think we're connected to the Royston telephone exchange.

Thanks for any input. :p

you'll be hard pushed to find a 8mb supplier who will give unlimited bandwidth. In fact when you do find one they will probably end up going bust 2 weeks later.

If you check your postcode on www.samknows.com you can see whether your exchange supports LLU or Cable. Cable is a pretty solid with no set caps.

Nice sig too, unfortunately its a bit bigger than the rules permit :).

Thanks for your input...

Just thought on... my friends net connection is capped at 1gb bandwidth.

Sig changed ;)

AOL are about the only ones with enough of a low use customer base that they can get away without imposing limits on their relatively few heavy users.

If you want to go elsewhere, you're going to get traffic shaping or caps - I'd go with caps, personally.

Best value for money are Enta resellers like UKFSN or Aquiss - they offer very generous off peak allowances.

Oh - and as above, your signature still breaks the rules unfortunately. Try the FAQ for more info. (It's still 23pixels too tall!)
