Ok guys thanks for the specs. I think I am ready to go ahead and order the following:
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10600C9 (1333MHz) Tri-Channel (CMX6GX3M3A1333C9) £132.99
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.5GHz 4MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail £129.99
Asus P5E3 Pro Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
2 Questions : are these compatible with eachother and also will the mobo take 2 9600gs gfx cards?
Thanks..
That spec is a waste of money.
Its dead tech
Its a dead socket
Its old CPU technology and that chip is hardly worth its price tag with only 4mb cache
You need to either go 1156 aith a an i5 750 or 1366 with an i7 920
DO NOT base a whole system around using two mediocre 9600GS GFX cards!
Your best bet would be to sell the GFX cards and get a faster single GFX card solution
Have you mentioned the resolution your son games at?
No.
You need to...
EDIT : YOu could spend 350 on mobo chip and ram in 1156 and still have a 100 over for a GFX card that would be faster than those two crappy 9600GS in SLI

I'm speechless that no one has suggested this.
Guess its time for me to save the day once again!
Listen to someone that knows.
