Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of replacing an 8 year old custom PC through insurance and have been made an offer of the following through one of their suppliers:
  • AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X processor with 6 cores
  • 16GB of DDR4 RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
I thought it looked ok on paper but it doesn't give much information beyond the basic specs that I've listed above & I must admit that I'm a little out of the loop.. I was just looking for some advice as to whether this is a good offer or if I should be pushing back or asking more of them. Thanks :)

Old build:
  • Intel® Core™i7-4770k Quad Core
  • ASUS® Z87-A: ATX
  • 16GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P
  • 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 770
  • 240GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 555MB/sR | 510MB/sW)
  • 1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1003FZEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)
  • 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
  • CORSAIR 650W RM SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
  • Corsair H100i Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler

It is very light on details but it will be vastly superior to your old PC in terms of performance.

No details for psu so you cannot know if it is of the same standard as the excellent Corsair RM but the AMD R5 5600x come with a cooler that is adequate to the task, an aftermarket cooler makes it a lot quieter but the stock AMD cooler is not awful.

Also no details on the case so if you need 3.5" drive bays you may be out of luck and have to swap to an external drive.

In general it a much much better pc than your old one.
