I built a general use/ gaming PC for a friend 10 years ago which died over the weekend, it's looking like CPU or the motherboard.
Given the age of components I've suggested a new/ refreshed build and could use a general sanity check.
Current spec is:
H170M Motherboard
Intel core i5-6500
16GB DDR4 2400Mhz
GTX 770
Samsung 750 Evo
Corsair CX600M PSU
Use case is general computing and playing older single player games on 1080p, but he recently tried some newer titles (Wolfenstein, Tomb Raider, SW Jedi Knight etc.) and the machine obviously struggled.
I've offered my old 5600X & 32GB DDR4 for £100 to help with a budget AM4 build, but sounds like he's keen on going newer/ more future proof (even with the current RAM prices).
Budget is ~£800 and will be re-using my old RTX 3070 and 512GB 980 Pro NVME to save some money elsewhere, so was looking at the below:
My basket at OcUK:
Have I gone massively overboard here given the intended use case? Guessing I could probably go for a cheaper (B650?) motherboard and possibly a Chinese 7500F? I'm a bit out of the loop here really.
Personally think he'd be fine with my old AM4 parts, but it's his money ultimately
