Replacement PSU

I've finished building my new gaming system and have fitted WC to make it nice and silent. This plan works for about 5 minutes after the computer boots because the PSU fan kicks in overdrive and makes tons of noise.

What I'm looking for is a replacement PSU (currently have an Enermax Galaxy 1100W) that can run the below setup. Needs to be as quite as possible:

Intel QX6800 @ stock
2 x Nvidia 8800 GTX
2 x Sata HDD
2 x Sata DVD-RW
Water Cooling kit
 
No recommendations from anyone ? I was looking at the 620W corsair PSU because they are meant to be quiet but I wasn't sure if it would handle my build ok
 
From reading other topics on here I would go with the 620w Corsair. I'm sure it would handle that setup fine. Others can correct me if im wrong though...
 
You might want to look a bit higher than the corsair 620w since quad-core + sli'd 8800gtx's + water-cooling adds up to quite a beast of a machine :)

The PCP&C 750w silencer would be a good choice.
Also the Enermax Infiniti 720w.
Silverstone Decathlon 750w.

If you wanted to go non-modular, models like the Silverstone Olympia & Etasis Gaming Power are the kind of thing you'd want to be looking at.
 
The Corsair would power it fine, they have done demonstrations at trade shows with a very similar system to yours without any problems and people do have a tendency to overestimate but if you feel more comfortable with a higher rated PSU then don't let me stop you. :)
 
Yep, as above really, the Corsair 620W can handle that spec just fine. There was an article which proved it could handle SLI 8800GTX's and an overclocked quad core. I'll try and find it.
 
You'd think they would have taken the time to slap a power monitor into the wall socket to see just how much was being drawn.

Jokester posted in some other thread with a piccy of a zalman fan controller that also has an inbuilt power monitor and he was clocking up 603w at load with a quad-core and sli'd 8800ultras. Admittedly that is what's being drawn from the wall but that would equate to roughly 480w being provided to the system if he was using an hx620w. That 480w (40A) is in turn about 80% of the max load the 12v rails are rated for. He also doesn't mention what form of cooling he uses in his system so the figure could potentially go higher still.

Yes the Corsair guys had it running at a trade show, yes legitreviews had it running for 2 weeks, but that doesn't really tell us how suitable it will be for longterm use.
