so today I noticed my cpu was a wee bit hotter than normal..

time to dust was my thoughts..

so stripped everything down and gave it all a clean and it wasnt that bad..

so rebuilt it and botted the system up with the side off it!! no movement from the cpu fans!! so a little bit of investigation and the fans are running but only at full speed!! the little pwm lead has decided to let go.

so my thoughts are 2 good PWM fans are now required!!
Ideally I would like red/black as this would go with my hardware better..

hi, I don't know if you have already purchased the fans, if you haven't you could use the PH-140mp from phanteks for your CPU cooler, is all black as well, I know phanteks used to do red and white 140mm fans, don't think they do anymore.

Ive not bought any yet. but funny you should suggest these ones.. I was looking at them earlier on tonight. I think these are the ones ill go for.

Im going to be ordering a set of solo15's as well so just waiting on my wages going in and ill order the lot in one go.

EDIT.. just looked on overclockers.. there out of stock :(

PH-F140MP I have not tried, but they are 140mm mouniting so will not fit with stock fan clips. I have not used them, but people I know who have were not impressed by them.

I used Thermalright TY 143 on mine. Red was a decent match to cooler The orange wasn't great but fans were great. Idle at 550rpm and are very quiet up to about 1150rpm .. and if you really need to cool thing the move stupid amounts of air at 2500rpm .. like 130cfm

If you could find a couple of TY-147 or TY-147A fans, they would be good too. Thermalright made a TY-149 with black housing and red blades, but I have only seen them in Silver Arrow IBX coolers. I have a coupe I got from a Russian source about a year ago. :D

All TY-14x fans have same basic performance from 550-1300rpm. TY-147A and TY-149 are 300-1300rpm and TY-143 550-2500rpm.

I like the look of the Thermalright TY-143 ones. how do you rate them?

I sent Phantek's an email on Friday explaining my PWM adapter had packed up.. they got back and said they would send one out and it would be dispatched in 2 to 3 weeks!!

well Im wondering if the person that emailed me speaks a different language and was using a bad translator program as the adapter arrived in the post yesterday

If all you need is an adapter I cna probably find something in my box of treasures the wife calls junk.

What do your PH-F140HP fan PWM% to speeds running on the PWM controlled hub look like? I assume that is how you are controlling them?

TY-143 work really well. I found their rpm difference to 1300rpm case fans using same PWM signal to work very well. I was using TY-140 for case with TY-143 on cooler

PWM TY-147A TY-143
10% 304rpm 580rpm
20% 315rpm 620rpm
30% 686rpm 686rpm
35% 469rpm 800rpm
40% 531rpm 990rpm
45% 602rpm 1185rpm
50% 660rpm 1338rpm
55% 725rpm 1513rpm

PWM TY-140/147 TY-143
10% 520rpm 580rpm
20% 525rpm 620rpm
30% 480rpm 686rpm
35% 676rpm 800rpm
40% 575rpm 990rpm
45% 833rpm 1185rpm
50% 895rpm 1338rpm
55% 955rpm 1513rpm
60% 998rpm 1646rpm

I didn't run them at higher PWM% in the above system because they will not even reach 55%, even when stress testing. :D

The reason for the difference between the above charts is the TY-147A has a very different PWM /rpm curve to TY-140 & TY-147. Same fan, different curve and lower idle.

i have those ty-143 fans on my sb-e extreme and they are not quiet. the 147 is a much better option if you want it to be as quiet as the old fans.

Sorry but you are blowing smoke or worse.
TY-147 and TY-143 are the same up to 1300rpm, the fastest the the TY-147 will go. Also TY-147 is no longer being make. It has been replaced by TY-147A.

After years of use the TY-143 ball bearing makes a little different sound than the other, but most can't hear any difference. It's not louder, just different

The TY-143 has same performance as TY-147, TY147A and old TY-140 up to 1300rpm. It is only when TY-143's speed exceeds the others does it get louder. But then that is only logical. :D

Also if you arfe using them above 1300rpm on your SA, you need to have case airflow increasing proportionately or your cooler intake air temp goes crazy .. along with CPU temps.

I don't normally use a case :P. But yes they are as quiet at the same speed. I normally disable pwm and just run them at full speed so that's why the t143 is louder for me :) also they do shift a lot of air at full speed nearly as much as my deltas, but at half the ram.

Yeah, they are loud at full speed. Almost as loud as Deltas :D

The rumor mill is saying a square version will be coming out soon. I hope the are all black or black / white and not red / orange.

I used TY-143 fans on my red PH-TC14PE. The red housing match wasn't bad, but the orange impeller didn't match anything.

how did you fing the TY-143's? I was looking for them but only place I can find them there about £10 each more expensive than the Noctua's

I liked them but they never ran above 1300rpm even when stress testing. If your PWM control will drop to 10-20% they will idle down to about 550 rpm. Only time they ran above 1300rpm was if I unplugged them for about 5 minutes at full load to push CPU up to about 80c then plug them back in. Then they would spin up to full speed for a minute or little more and slowly come back down to 1200rpm -ish normal speed at normal 65c load temps in 3 or 4 minutes max. PH-TC14PE is a great cooler! I have one on my old i7 980. If you want TY-143s drop me a trust message.
