My Sony K315Z laptop's HDD (60gig) has just died and 'googling' for replacements has not brought much info.
Therefore could anyone advise if there are any know problems with fitting any HDD (IDE) in this m/c. I was considering a WD Scorpio 120gig.

Thank you.

There shouldn't be a problem (aside from whether it's easy to access the hard drive). You could really speed up that laptop and make it more robust by adding an SSD, but only if you are going to run vista or win7 (winXP doesn't really understand how to look after an SSD.)/

I can't help with your problem, but I have a very similar one, so hope you don't mind me joining in with your thread - I have just been given a Sony Vaio and need to replace the hard drive.
Will any laptop HD fit ?

Thanks for the reply HazardO. My daughter just uses the laptop for course work/watching videos and storing her photo's so speed is not required. I already have the HDD out - it was very easy - so was just checking about the replacement as sometimes firms get 'fussy' about new parts :-)

I've been informed that it is very rare for laptops to reject hard disk which are not the right brand. Obviously they need to have the right interface though.

One potential gotcha is that the 2.5in HDs come in 2 different hights, 9.5mm and 7 mm. You need to make sure you know which you have.

Excellent bit of info as I had checked the width & depth but ignored the height. However, and this was going so well,I make the height 8+mm?????

Panic over. I have just tracked down the specs on Hitachi's web-site (you gotta love the Internet) and it is 9.5mm.

Now looking for a web-site that does replacement eyes :-)

Thanks again for your help.
