Hello everyone. Been reading these forums for a long time, and am ineed of some advice. I have 4 gig AMD cpu, Asus A8N deluxe sli board, 2 gig of Geil 3200 ram, 480 watt Tagen psu, and currently 2 6600gts in sli. Last week i got a Acer 20" Widescreen TFT, well happy with it, and need to know if a 7600Gt is on par or above 2 x 6600GT`s ?

Another factor, is i dont really wanna spend over £200 max right now, so *** do i do, 7600GT (£150) single card, and sli at a later date, or go for the 7800GT (£195). Please advice. Thanks in advanced. TTFN

A single 7600GT is quicker than 6600GTs SLI. They are pretty decent for the price.
If you can afford it get a 7800GT, or if you can stretch more, get a 7900GT.

Just boils down to how much you wonna spend, as they are all great cards.

You could easily sell your 6600GTs for the same price as a 7600GT i reckon. Then get another one later when they drop to about £100 (like the 6600GT has)

Go for the 7900 gt at £220 over the 7800 GT at £195 :)

You may also want to look at this card; cheaper & a bit quicker than the 7900GT ...
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-121-SP)
** This Week Only ** £199.69*Including VAT

I think because he has an SLI mobo and he is coming from an SLI setup to suggest a card that cannot be run in SLI is limiting to him IMO.

Nvidia is the way i want to go, mainly because i own 2 sli boards, the 6600 gts will go in 2nd pc, and currently torn between 7600gt, and 7900gt now. For £70 extra, do i get that much more performance using a 7900gt in say HL2 widescreen mode as compared to a 7600gt ? SLI i will consider at a later stage at this point in time.

The 7600GT has exactly the same features of the 7900GT, but it has roughly half of everything, it has half the shaders, half the memory interface and half the ROPs. They arent really in same league, so it's £70 extra well spent i reckon.

If your talking HL2 (or any game a year old), then I doubt you'd really see much different between the two cards, but if your talking Oblivion or future games, then the 7900GT will be much better.

What about that XFX GeForce 7800GT Extreme Edition 256MB at only £187.94. That is a very good price and is certainly much more powerful than a 7600 gt.

I more inclined to plump for the 7900GT , with the option of doubling up in the future. Thanks for all your comments, most helpful ;)

Yes I was going to say if you can stetch get the 7900 GT over the 7800 GT for 30 quid more.
