Hi all im currently looking to upgrade my BFG 8800GT card. I have had it a couple of years now and i must say it has been faultless and has played everything i have thown at it.

The problem now it i have gone from 1440x900 res to 1920x1080 and i am starting to have to play all my games with AA off and everything turned down. I do not really have that much to spend around £150 and was looking at trying the 5770 out or would i be best putting the extra in and getting a 5850?

The MB i am currently using is a MSI P7N Diamond which is more for tri SLI so was thinking i would also be best going for a board more for crossfire and hopefully in the future getting another card and running it in crossfire?

Any help would be great thanks

My advice would be to live with it for a while until the 5850 is cheaper otherwise get a 4890 1gb.

How is the 4980 compared with the 5770? Just wondering how they would perform with the new dx11 games due to be out soon

5770 will be an entry level dx11 card it's going to be struggling later down the line in my view.
8800gt to 5770 is not a good upgrade I think you'd be kicking yourself if you didn't wait for the 5850 price to come down.

I had another 8800GT before running in SLI and there was not that much performace difference i noticed. Not sure if it was because i was only running at 1440x900 res. I would have to find another BFG 8800GT OC to match with mine tho wouldn't I?

doesnt have to be same make of card just same type and for me adding another 8800gts 512mb gave me bout 250 fps on cod4 with everything maxed wiht custom config and on l4d about 150 to 200fps at 1440x900

If he does have an SLI capable motherboard then it would be a decent upgrade - even at 1440x900 you should see a good 60-70% average boost over a single card in most games. I ran an 8800GT SLI setup awhile back and it was a great setup - only upgraded coz I needed the extra VRAM after upgrading to a higher res display.
