Replacing a Essence STX

Hi all,

Unfortunately it seems my Essence STX is giving up the ghost. I'm fairly sure it was damaged in a recent house move (some one pulled out the headphone adapter at an angle and broke the adapter) and this may have contributed to it.

I currently have a pair of AKG 551s but I'm not sure what to go for in-replacing the STX.

Is the PowerColor DEVIL HDX comparable to the STX? Is it worth going for an upgrade and towards an external DAC?

Thanks

I wouldnt bother spending extra going to an external dac/amp setup as i doubt you will be able to notice any difference on k551s.

I was going to do a full review of the HDX but sadly it died before I could do it.

Sound quality was superb, it really does give the STX a run and at a markedly lower price too.
I found that I preferred the control software for the HDX, even if it does take forever to download from the website.

I haven't really said much about it since the card died because I didn't feel it would be fair to criticise the card for reliability on the results of a sample size of one - all manufacturers have failures and TwsT has said that the failure rate is low and that I was just unlucky to get a lemon.
