Replacing a MOSFET - electrical help needed

Seems to be like a slightly improved version on some specs at the compromise of others. The compromised ones, as you say, shouldn't be that critical.

I reckon it is worth a try if you can't source the proper component.
 
I'd go with the 8036 if you have some spare. It's very close whereas the 8660 seems to be a little more different. It may have better specs but the board will be designed around the 8028 and may not respond well to a different type of FET being thrown in there.
 
Saw the above post a bit too late unfortunately!

Well progress anyway, although the MOSFET is indeed a correct replacement, the short is somewhere else in the circuit - with another component in the line removed the one I thought to be faulty tests as fine. At least I'm on the right track!
