Replacing a psu fan

Hi all,

I had a thread a week or so ago about a ticking in my PC. I was advised this was a problem with the XFX XXX edition psu's and something about the fan being underclocked on it which causes the ticking noise.

What I was thinking was, what if I replace the fan/fans on it? Is this likely to cure the problem? Also, how hard is it to replace a PSU fan, I've never done it before .

Cheers everyone

I've never personally looked into it, but when I went through college one thing was always made clear. NEVER fiddle with the PSU.

Not sure whether to take that with a pinch of salt, but personally I'd just replace.

If its under warranty RMA it, if you open up the PSU the warranty will stop. There is a thread on ocUK forum on changing the fan on PSU so search it...

If you are an idiot and touch wrong things in opened PSU such as Capacitors there is a slight chance it will be the last thing you`ll see.

Personally I dont see it more dangerous than lets say... cooking with a pan full of sizzling oil if that lands on your face... well...

Hmm, maybe I will just leave it for now then, the ticking isn't unbearable or anything, but I was just wondering if it was worth it. I would RMA it, but I can't really be completely without a PC for however long it takes for the process to complete :(
