I need to replace our back door - just the door, the frame I'm pretty sure is fine. Is it a standard size? It's 1980h which is fine, but it's 730w (just the door), or 780w including the frame. I'm unsure how the likes of B&Q etc measure the width - does it include the frame?

Picture for reference/avoidance of doubt:

You need a door set, frame as well. Local window guys often take out perfectly good doors so may be worth your time calling around. They often have new doors with small blemishes that they will off load for a good price also. Go in low as most want rid of them for the space and cant be bothered with the hassle of selling over marketplace/ebay
Measure the width and height in 3 places then take 10mm off the smallest dimension.

UPVC doors are only available  with a frame as well i think?
You might find it easier to get a quote from a local firm

Guh ok, bigger job then! The door itself is fine but the interior handle comes off and the locking system is stiff AF (despite enough WD40). I'm assuming the whole mechanism is integrated into the door.

It is possible to replace the whole locking system (well it should be)
You should be able to just replace the lock if that is all that is faulty
You would have to take out the old lock and measure all the bits..You might be better off calling out a upvc window/door repairer if you do not like DIYing :)

Are you using silicone based lube (wd40 do one) rather than traditional wd40 which won't work.

Pretty sure you can replace just the lock gear and handle mechanism in a lot of these doors?

I don't mind DIY so I'll have to have a look when I'm back from this weekend. It's one of those doors where there's a central lock and two hooks toward the top and bottom that are connected, so I thought it might be difficult to fix/replace. It's the main lock that's the issue (it needs physically pushing in to put it in).

Check for movement on the frame. Pop in a couple of fresh fixings before you go to the expense of a new lock set. You could try putting a chamfer or open the keep a mil or two.
