Replacing BMW 1 Series E82 head unit

Hello everyone,

Wondering if anyone can point me to a decent ICE headunit replacement? It would need to have at the least Bluetooth and ideally run Android Auto for GPS and have DAB and reverse Camera (although RC not essential)

I would imagine it is more complex than the "olden" days when you has a single or double DIN slot and literally just slid it into a bracket or attached the wires in the back before sliding it in.

It has steering wheel controls for volume and reverse parking sensors which would probably need to be plumbed in. I have spotted some on for example Halfords or a site that does these things but then they ask if you require a adaptor for this and wiring harness for that etc. Gets complex really quickly.

I fitted a DroidUK screen to my E88. Incredibly easy since the original headunit stays in place and a good bit of kit I have to say.

I had a Sony XAV-AX3005DB headunit in my old E87 130i that would match all of your requirements (BT, AA, DAB, RC).

For the microphone i installed one of these in the oem location
The fitting kit was a Connects2 CTKBM08 which included all the hardware to keep the steering wheel controls and PDC beeps
I bought mine from Halfords and got them to install it as they had a great deal on at the time on Android Auto headunits, and also a deal on free installation. IIRC I paid around £275 fitted. Buying everything separately and fitting it myself would have been over £400!
