After owing a MBP for a month now I have been persuaded by OSX about how much better it runs compared to my pc. Is it viable to reaplce my desktop pc with a good spec Imac for gaming.... the graphics cards seem to be very limited in choice.

I did the same thing. Bought an iBook, loved OSX, then replaced my desktop with an iMac. It only worked for me because I didnt play games.

If youre even half serious about playing the latest games then I'd save your pennies and buy a PC for half the price.

Also, I dont know about anyone else, it got really old really fast having to reboot into different operating systems. If you gamed regularly I could see you just leaving it in XP and it would be a waste of a Mac. :)

Or a Mac Pro and throw a 8800 in it :)

the 8800 wont' be noticed by OS X though, but if your using boot camp go into windows it will work.

Thats useful info thanks, I'm not really into the latest games but there is the occasional one I like to play, most of my time is spent on WoW anyway which runs great on the Mac.

I ditched my desktop PC for a MacBook Pro, no regrets so far, but I don't play any games so it's a bit different.

Get a 24" iMac for a desktop machine and you'd be laughing!

ive just purchased an imac 24" and was wondering how well these run?
ive never owned a mac before and i also have a good pc for gameing on i dont intend to use my imac for any games i got the 24" imac with 2gig ram.
can anyone give me a few links or advice on what are the best app's to run on a mac as ive no clue at all how to set one up yet :)
ive been on windows for ever so i guess im starting out as a noob with mac stuff ;)

Question about the iMacs.... I don't suppose there is a video input, so i could connect my pc to run the Macs monitor in those times when I did want to play something graphics intensive?

Have a look at the Mac Sticky mate, loads and loads of useful info in there.

They're very easy to get used too, but for additional information, I recommend you buy 'Mac OS X Leopard: The Missing Manual' by David Pogue, I bought it when I got my first Mac (the Tiger version) and it's really useful.

Unfortunately not.

Go check out the sticky in the Mac Software section.

If you have any questions then just ask :)

Once the new Mac Pro's are out I'm doing just this. I'll be picking up a Mac Pro with hopefully a decent graphics card in it. That way I get OS X (which I love) and can occasionally boot into Vista to game :)

EVH what is the best msn prog to run on a mac some use AMSN is there a version with a webcam?
and what is Ichat like is that a dif version of msn?
also can i run mirc on a mac without having to install xp or vista on bootcamp i got away from pc's to just run mac app's only really but i use mirc a fair ammount
any info appreciated :)

No decent apps support video/cam support.. Adium will soon though.

iChat is for people who use AOL IM (AIM) accounts, or people with .Mac.. unless you have an AOL account, or know people with them it's pretty useless.

You can't run any form of windows .exe file without running some form of Virtual Machine unfortunately. As Boot camp is built in to Leopard then that's about as cheap and as easy a method as you'll get.

The other methods of booting Windows on a Mac are in the sticky :)

I used to have an eMac side by side with my PC desktop. The mac was that good, I used it for everything except gaming. The PC was only booted up if I wanted to play counterstrike or Quake III. The mac makes everything else so simple and quick, with no hassles ;)
