Is this possible, feasible, or a total waste of time? I've been contemplating replacing the fans on my 290x to get better cooling peformance but retain the original heatsink, but I also want to keep the pc as quiet as possible but not use a bay mounted fan controller so I thought of using a pair of pwm fans spliced into the gpu circuit board header, so enabling me to use afterburner or trixx to control the fans. Is this doable or am I wasting my time?:)

You could just plug them into a mobo fan header and control them with speedfan rather than splicing into anything.

I have a case fan controlled by GPU temp via speedfan and it works fine.
