Replacing graphics card

I am looking at replacing my 9800GT @ 512mb, simply because it does not have enough memory for AA at the resolution I play at.

I think I will be able to sell it for about £60. I was wondering if I would be able to pick up a better card with 1GB memory for about £60-£70 new or used. I am tight on cash so I don't want to be splashing out. I want to spend a little more than I sell my 9800gt for. I was thinking HD4870...if that is better? But I would prefer nVidia.

Opinions, comments, advice please.

Thanks a lot.

Well practically what I am saying is...what is the best graphics card I can get for £60-£70 used with 1GB memory or more.

Better than that of my 9800GT.

Overall - Maybe - the 1gb 4870 would be a nice upgrade but have not seen it available new for such a low price and even 2nd hand that sounds low to me.

Alternative might be 260 - but not for £70 - too low :(

It's not that there are not better cards out there , there are BUT you will be very lucky to buy one for the same price your selling your existing card for. Good luck :D

Keep your card, the memory is not the bottleneck. I play at 1920x1200 using a 9800GT.

I would like to, I can game on Ultra (COD4:MW2) but it's not as responsive as i'd like it to be and I cannot use AntiAliasing.

Might wait a bit and see what's on offer on the forum.

If your going to 'upgrade' then would go for either a 260 ( 216sp's) which I believe beats a 4870 or a 4890 which beats the 260.
Your probably looking at a cost 2nd hand of at least £85 & more for the 4890.at the moment.
I play at 1920x1200 and found the 4870 512mb not good enough - a move to a 260 with 896mb improved matters markedly. (Although the 260 was not powerfull enough to have the eye candy on high in all the games !!)

Ah right ok, I am specifically looking for a 1GB which unfortunately heightens the price tag, I guess I will still with the 9800gt which is serving me ok.

I just have them days where I want the extra eye candy at kick ass frames.
