Hi guys.

Long story very short i have just ran over the GFs iPhone 5s so im just looking at tutorials on what to order etc. I was just going to spend a few quid on the front glass as the screen etc is still working fine although i've been reading that its not good practice to separate the digitizer and the screen and for £15 extra i can get the whole screen.

Few questions for you guys.

1. Anyone done the swap? Did you do the glass or both screen & glass?
2. Can anyone recommend a decent seller. Would prefer genuine parts but reviews are so mixed on amazon shops im worried.
3. Anyone have a spare room which i can use over xmas if i continue to get the cold shoulder! :D

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, you "ran over" her phone? Need more details on how exactly you managed that :D.

It's easier to just replace the entire display I always found eBay better to get parts for phone repairs over Amazon to be honest (slower delivery though, feel time might be of the essence for you).

I don't think you'd get genuine original parts near that price, you'd be looking around 40-50 tbh, but the third party ones are okay, just buy from a seller with good feedback on Amazon/eBay.

I swapped my iPhone 5 camera.

Ended up breaking front camera. The connections can be fiddly and you can easily break parts.

In hindsight wish just paid 3rd party.

Use the ifixit instructions as they are the clearest. Look for seller happylemon_ltd or seller mechanic_warehouse on eBay. I've always found their quality pretty good and you shouldn't pay more than £20-22 for the whole unit (screen and glass). Don't be fooled into thinking you can just buy the glass as its glued to the screen and incredibly difficult to separate without specialist equipment.

If you want the highest quality parts then I'd say direct from ifixit.com would be the best bet, but A you'll pay for them and B it takes a wee while to get them delivered.

it's easy enough to do.
as said above screen and glass are glued and you would have to fit them both.

when you lift the screen at the bottom, be careful and don't lift it too much as there is a ribbon cable connected to the home button, once that is unclipped you can lift the screen up fully to get to the screen connection cover plate..

I would just check you haven't bent the case on her phone though if you ran over it though as if it is only a little bit out you won't get the new screen to fit flush and may need a new body as well (about £40ish on the bay)

Most screens come with a little kit to do the work and these are sufficient for a single repair.

Lastly, draw a picture of your iphone internals once you get the screen off and mark where all the screws go as they use all different sizes and when you have a pile of screws on your desktop it is near impossible to work out which one came from where.

Just for the record I too have bought screens from mechanic_warehouse, justparts09, happylemon_ltd and azerolf from ebay and they worked perfect for me.
