The clip on mine broke off and basically my computer wont reconise it unless set at a certain angle and i cant wiggle my feet around under my desk for fear of knocking it out.

Off we toddle to the purple shirt crew, dad explained the situation..kinda of pointless since I then had to re-explain it and give more details. I always thought we needed a special cramp but apparantly according to the guy the ones he told us there was just a clip to take it off and thats all that was needed, and looking at them it appeared to be the same style as mine.

Got in, looked at it and there was no sign of some removable clip.

Question in short, is there a way to replace it without using a special cramp?

I guess no, but i think my dad is going to check with work to see if they have one kicking about.

Nope, every single RJ45 plug that I have ever seen is a crimp on type. I dont even think any other type exist. I think that the person who you spoke too hasnt got a clue . . . Where abouts are you based? Perhaps someone could help you out?

You will need the crimping kit and a new ethernet RJ45 plug to re-attach the RJ45 plug. Depends how long it is your probably best off just buying a cable or getting someone to send you one on here or something.

If needs be the colour code for a a straight through cable is:
orange white, orange, green white, blue, blue white, green, brown white, brown

I would replace the cable but its 15m+ long (maybe) and goes under the floor boards.
Hole were drilled in the floorboards for the wire to go through but this is only wide enough for the cable to fit.

oh right. In that case you will need a crimping kit and a few RJ45 plugs just incase it messes up and you have to recrimp it.

Why not wire the cable into a network socket and screw it onto your skirting? That way you will only need a short cable from socket to computer :)

Just buy a crimp tool and some heads, its really easy to do. Just google it and follow the guides. Will seem really fiddly at first but eventually you will get it.

After that you will be able to do them with your eyes closed.
